Declutter
Even before you start packing and piling up boxes, we recommend going through your house and trying to declutter by eliminating as much stuff as possible. The truth about our modern society is that we all get to accumulate things that we don’t really need. We can often go through and clean out our house by making a list of things that we no longer need or use. After we have outed those things, we can categorize them as things we want to donate or sell.
Use Same-Size Boxes
While it can be quite tempting to use all sorts of boxes, such as free boxes from the grocery store or the many Amazon boxes that you accumulated over all these years, we recommend using same-size boxes. What it does for you is that it will make your life so much easier; especially, when you are stacking the boxes inside the trucks. While choosing the boxes, you might also want to check in with the movers to see what kinds of boxes they provide. As a pro tip, we recommend opting for boxes with handles built into their sides, as this will make the boxes’ loading, unloading, and maneuvering so much easier.
Label Boxes by Room
Another tip that will make your moving experience so much easier is to label the boxes by their designated room. In this way, when they are off the truck, the boxes go to their designated rooms, making the unpacking and setting so much easier. This will also save much time and energy as you won’t have to double-check on everything before taking the boxes to their designated rooms.
As a pro tip, we recommend putting a star on all boxes that contain important stuff. For instance, you might want to draw a star on the box that contains your office equipment as it will serve as an indicator that it is the first box that you might want to unpack.
Use Your Suitcase
For your personal belongings, you might as well use your suitcase. The underlying thought is that you will move your suitcases anyway, so why not make good use of them? For instance, you can stack your pillow, a change of clothes, toothbrush, toiletries, and other essential stuff in your suitcase. The essential benefit of this is that if something goes wrong and it takes way longer to unpack than you originally intended, all you really need to do is find that one suitcase containing all your essentials. This one hack is particularly important as the last thing anyone would be doing while unloading a moving truck is digging through thirty boxes and trying to find their essentials.
Start Packing Early
Don’t put off the packing until the moving day. You might have asked many people, such as your friends and family, to come over and help you move; however, remember that they will help you move, not to pack your belongings. That said, start the packing process as early as possible, preferably three weeks before moving. This will ensure that you have everything ready on the moving day, when your friends, family, and the moving truck arrive. Trust us; there is nothing more frustrating than delaying the packing process and generating chaos on a moving day. To avoid stress, start packing early.
