Apart from regular eye checkups and exams, there are certain situations in which you should make a trip to see a doctor.
Of course, some minor eye issues can be handled at home, but if you are experiencing certain symptoms, you may be putting your health at risk by foregoing a visit to an eye doctor.
Are you having eye problems or vision issues? If you are, you need to know when it’s time to get in the car and visit an optometrist. Here, we’re sharing some warning signs that warrant a trip to the eye doctor. Just keep on reading to protect your eye health!
1. Loss of Vision
If you suddenly lose vision in one or both of your eyes, it could be the result of serious health problems including stroke. In that case, you would need emergency medical attention as soon as possible.
However, other less serious vision issues could also warrant a trip to the optometrist. Blind spots, double vision, and tunnel vision could be the result of a retinal detachment or glaucoma.
2. Eye Pain
It isn’t normal for your eyes to be experiencing pain. Eye pain could be the result of inflammation, infection, or even corneal abrasion, so seek medical attention quickly!
3. Itching or Burning Eyes
Allergy season often brings on itching and watery eyes, but if your eyes are constantly on fire or burning then it’s time to visit an optometrist.
It’s likely that your doctor will prescribe you antimicrobial eye drops to soothe the itching and to keep your eyes dry.
4. Vision Flashes
Did you know that flashes of light in your vision could mean that your retina is either tearing or detaching from its place in the eye?
If you ever see light flashing in one spot in your vision or several flashes, then you need to seek medical care immediately. If you get help fast enough, your doctors should be able to repair your retina with ease. However, vision flashes could also indicate that you’re experiencing an ocular migraine.
5. Floaters
It’s pretty common for people to see faint, wispy strands or flecks in their field of vision. These are referred to as “floaters”, and aren’t necessarily an issue.
However, if you’re noticing a new influx of floaters gathering in your field of vision, then you should get the problem addressed at a Medical Arts Eye Exam.
See a Doctor If You Are Experiencing These Symptoms
Eye health is extremely important. You need your vision so that you can function properly and so that you can enjoy a higher quality of life! That’s why it’s vital that you see a doctor if you are experiencing any of these warning signs or symptoms.
