You have nearly endless options when it comes to integrating jewelry into your everyday look. Necklaces, bracelets, and rings are the most common jewelry options and can be found in a wider range of colors, styles, and materials. If you like the look of ring stacking but are nervous about pulling it off, you don’t have to be. Here are a few dos and don’t to get you started to enjoy a new style of wearing jewelry.
Do choose rings that lay against each other well.
When you buy a stacking ring set, you’ll notice they are designed to stack against each other well. They do not create odd shapes or patterns on the top or bottom. Much like wedding sets, they are designed to go together. If you buy individual rings that you want to stack, make sure they go smoothly against each other on your finger. Having rings that lay against each other will also lessen the chance of one of the rings getting caught on something and hurting your finger.
Do coordinate colors and materials.
The rings you choose to stack do not need to be identical. However, it will look more natural if they are coordinated either by colors or materials. For example, stacking all sterling silver or gold rings will look more natural than combining some that are silver and some that are gold. Likewise, choosing rings that each have a small raw stone in them will look more natural than choosing one ring with a small raw stone, one ring with a pearl, and one ring with a faceted diamond. Coordinating the colors or materials of the rings will make them look stylish and intentional.
Don’t stack rings that are bulky and will interfere with motion.
Stackable rings are generally thin, so you can wear multiple rings without interfering with the motion of your finger. If you choose bulky rings, they may make it difficult to bend your finger or move naturally. They may also be more likely to catch on to things and causing pain in your hand.
If you have a job that requires you to wear latex gloves, you’ll need to avoid rings with stones on them that may tear your gloves. If you type a lot, you’ll get uncomfortable typing with bulky or heavy rings. While they may look great with your outfit, an hour into work, you may start regretting your decision and take them off.
Don’t be afraid of making it look funky.
You don’t have to stick with petite sterling silver bands to pull off the ring stacking look. You can choose rings that are a little funky or are made with materials you don’t usually wear. For example, raw stones provide a completely different look at tumbled and polished stones. Instead of traditional metals, you can choose wood, pewter, or glass rings.
You can try different looks to see how you like them or change the rings you stack based on what you are wearing. You can also vary the number of rings you stack. If you choose rings that are a bit larger, you may only stack two. At the same time, you may decide to stack three or four rings if they are thinner and fit well on your finger.
Styling your jewelry is part of the fun of styling your outfit and your overall look. You can experiment and try different rings and different options in stacking before you find what you are most comfortable with. There is truly no right or wrong way to stack rings as long as you are comfortable and able to work and function normally while they are on.
